The Nanticoke River Watershed:
The Watershed

What is a watershed?

Why is the Nanticoke watershed special?

What can you do to protect it?

A watershed is an area of land that captures water in any form and drains it to a particular body of water, such as a river or bay. Every person lives in a watershed and every person affects the condition of his or her watershed. A watershed like the Nanticoke is enormously important to our quality of life because it ensures clean water, reduced erosion and flooding, healthy habitats for plants and animals, strong real estate values, and numerous recreational opportunities.

At the Nanticoke Watershed Alliance, we are proud of the fact that the Nanticoke remains one of the healthiest rivers to drain into the Chesapeake Bay, but we realize it will require much work to keep it that way. Please take a moment to visit the links in this section so you can learn more about what makes the Nanticoke special and what actions you can take to ensure its future health.
