Revised in 2002 as part of the celebration of the 10th Anniversary of the Nanticoke Watershed Alliance and its Delaware-Maryland Bi-State Commitment

Mission:
To conserve the natural, cultural, and recreational resources of the Nanticoke River watershed for the benefit of present and future generations.

Goals:

  1. Promote and support protection, conservation, and management of important watershed-related natural resources and responsible resource-based industries.


  2. Recognize sites, structures, and activities that are important parts of the Nanticoke Watershed heritage, history, and livelihood, and work to achieve their preservation.


  3. Encourage educational and low impact recreational uses of the river.

Objectives:

  1. Conduct forums, workshops, and classroom programs to share general watershed infomation and results of research and to provide avenues for preserving the watershed.


  2. Develop partnerships with and between members of the general public, landowners, private organizations, businesses, and all levels of government in Maryland and Delaware.


  3. Promote the protection of fish and wildlife resources and their habitat, particularly rare, threatened, and important plant and animal communities.


    • Promote the establishment of greenways within the watershed.


    • Seek to protect the river as an ecosystem and to offer protection for rare, threatened, and important plant and animal communities.


  4. Improve water quality in the watershed.


  5. Promote and support low impact development and land use throughout the watershed.


  6. Support efforts to sustain agriculture and forestry as economically viable land uses.


  7. Promote activities that emphasize the river's cultural history.


  8. Promote opportunities for low impact recreational uses in the watershed.
